Yeouido Hangang Park is free and open 24 hours: Seoul’s most popular Han River park, a minute’s walk from Yeouinaru Station (Line 5) Exit 2 or 3. Allow two to three hours. Come in the late afternoon for a picnic or a bike ride, then stay for sunset and the lights on the bridges.

The park runs for 8.4 km along the south bank of the Han River, wrapping around the island of Yeouido, Seoul’s finance and politics district in the west of Seoul. It is a strip of lawns, cycle paths, riverside steps and plazas between Hangang Railway Bridge and the National Assembly. People come to sit on the grass with convenience-store food, cycle along the river, take a cruise or simply watch the sunset. In spring it is Seoul’s classic cherry-blossom spot, and it hosts the Seoul International Fireworks Festival.

Facts from the Seoul Future Hangang Headquarters (미래한강본부) park pages, Seoul city and Visit Seoul, checked 18 October 2026. For most first-time visitors, an hour or two of sitting by the water near Yeouinaru at sunset is the point of coming. Add a bike or a cruise only if you have the time.

When to go

  • Late afternoon into the evening is the best time. The lawns fill up after work, the sun sets over the river to the west, and the bridges light up after dark. Weekday mornings are quiet.
  • Spring (early April): cherry trees line Yunjung-ro behind the National Assembly and much of the park. In 2026 the Korea Meteorological Administration recorded the Yunjung-ro trees in bloom on 29 March (average: 6 April), and the Yeouido Spring Flower Festival ran 3–7 April, with the road closed to cars from 1 to 8 April.
  • Summer: the outdoor pool opens (2026 season: 19 June to 30 August; adults ₩5,000), and the fountain at Water Light Square (물빛광장) runs from April to October as a shallow splash area.
  • Autumn: the best weather for a picnic. The Seoul International Fireworks Festival was held here on 5 September 2026, about three weeks earlier than in 2025. Seoul city expects over a million people every year, Yeouinaru Station can be closed and roads shut, so plan around it. The 2027 date has not been announced.
  • Winter: cold winds off the river, and tents are not allowed from December to February. A short sunset walk is still worthwhile.

Getting there

Station Exit Walk Best for
Yeouinaru (여의나루), Line 5 2 or 3 About 1 min The middle of the park: lawns, the cruise pier, Water Light Square. The lift is by Exit 2
National Assembly (국회의사당), Line 9 1 About 1 min The western end behind the National Assembly and the Yunjung-ro cherry trees
Saetgang (샛강), Line 9 / Sillim Line 4 About 10 min Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park
Yeouido (여의도), Lines 5 and 9 1 15–20 min When Yeouinaru is closed for crowds; Seoul Dal in Yeouido Park is on the way

Exits and walking times from the park’s official “how to get here” page, checked 18 October 2026. For a first visit, ride to Yeouinaru and come up at Exit 2 or 3, which leads straight into the park.

From central Seoul, Line 5 runs to Yeouinaru from Gwanghwamun and Jongno 3-ga. The Hangang Bus river ferry has its main pier at Yeouido, inside the park. It has run the full route again since 1 March 2026, splitting at Yeouido into an eastern leg to Jamsil and a western leg to Magok. Times change with the season, so check the operator’s timetable. A T-money card pays the subway and buses.

Picnics, food and tents

  • Food: the park has four convenience stores, and eating on the lawns or the river steps is what most people do. Cooking is not allowed.
  • Delivery: delivery riders may not enter the park. Set the address to one of the four Yeouido delivery zones and collect your order there. The zones are at Yeouinaru Exit 3 (by the Yeouido underpass), at Exit 2 (in front of store no. 2), up the steps next to Water Light Square, and in the Seogang Bridge south public car park.
  • Shade tents: allowed from 1 March to 30 November, only in the marked tent zones, and no bigger than about 2 × 2 m (four people). From 1 September to 30 November 2026 the hours are 09:00–22:00. The usual hours are 09:00–19:00, or 09:00–20:00 in June–August. Outside the season, use a picnic mat. Camping or cooking outside designated areas can be fined.
  • Rubbish: take it with you or use the bins and separate food waste. Litter is fined.

Tips for visiting

  • Bring a mat and a layer. It gets windy and cool by the river after sunset, even in early autumn.
  • Ddareungi: a day pass costs ₩1,000 for one hour and ₩2,000 for two (Seoul city, March 2026). Return and re-rent within the hour to avoid the ₩200-per-5-minute overtime charge.
  • Watch the cycle path. Bikes move fast on the riverside path, so cross it carefully with children.
  • Seoul Dal balloon: it flies from Yeouido Park, a separate park in the middle of the island, and has run daily since 1 April 2026, from 12:00 to 22:00 (from 10:00 on weekends in April–June and September–November). Adults pay ₩25,000, ages 13–18 and 65+ ₩20,000, and children aged 3–12 ₩15,000. Each flight lasts about 15 minutes.
  • Last train: trains stop around midnight, earlier on weekends and holidays, so check the time in the Seoul subway guide.
  • No fishing, no smoking, no motorbikes anywhere in the park.
  • Combine it with an evening in Hongdae, or with the river walk on the second day of Seoul in 3 days. In spring, see cherry blossoms in Korea for the other big spots.

Background

The park takes in the whole riverside of Yeouido, from the middle of Hangang Railway Bridge to the slopes of the Saetgang stream behind the National Assembly, about 1.49 km² in all. Its western corner holds Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park, opened on 25 September 1997 as Korea’s first ecological park, with willows, reeds and silver grass on the old stream channel.

Off the bank near Mapo Bridge lies Bamseom, an uninhabited river island protected as a Ramsar wetland that visitors cannot enter. The Bamseom ecology centre at the south end of Mapo Bridge has telescopes, exhibits and a VR view of the island. The park also has the Seoul Marina near the National Assembly, sports grounds, a pump track and a children’s playground near Wonhyo Bridge.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Yeouido Hangang Park?

Take Subway Line 5 to Yeouinaru Station and use Exit 2 or 3. The park starts about a minute's walk from the exit, and Exit 2 has a lift. For the cherry-tree road behind the National Assembly, use National Assembly Station (Line 9), Exit 1, instead.

Is Yeouido Hangang Park open at night?

Yes. The park is open 24 hours a day, all year, and it is busiest from late afternoon into the evening. Shade tents must come down by 22:00 from September to November 2026. Check the last subway train before you settle in.

Can I bring a tent to Yeouido Hangang Park?

Only a small shade tent of about 2 × 2 m, only in the marked tent zones, and only from 1 March to 30 November. From 1 September to 30 November 2026 tents are allowed from 09:00 to 22:00. Keep to the zone, and at other times use a picnic mat.

Can I order food delivery to the park?

Yes, but riders cannot enter the park, so set the address to one of the four Yeouido delivery zones. They are at Yeouinaru Exit 3, Yeouinaru Exit 2 (by store no. 2), next to Water Light Square, and in the Seogang Bridge south car park. The park's convenience stores are the easier option if you have no Korean delivery app.

When are the cherry blossoms and fireworks at Yeouido?

The cherry trees on Yunjung-ro behind the National Assembly usually bloom in early April. In 2026 they opened on 29 March and the spring flower festival ran 3–7 April. The Seoul International Fireworks Festival was held here on 5 September 2026, and the 2027 date has not been announced.
