Jusangjeolli Cliff costs ₩2,000 for adults and is open every day 09:00–17:50, with last entry at 17:30. It is a cliff-top walk above Korea’s largest wall of basalt columns, on the Jungmun coast in south Jeju. Allow under an hour. From the airport, the limousine 600 stops at the gate.

Jusangjeolli (주상절리, “columnar joints”) are four- to six-sided pillars that formed when a thick lava flow cooled fast and cracked as it shrank. Here they stand 30–40 m high along about 1 km of the Jungmun–Daepo shore. The site is a protected Natural Monument (No. 443). Its old local name is Jisatgae, so the rocks are also known as Jisatgae-bawi (지삿개바위).

Is Jusangjeolli worth a stop?

Stop if you are staying in Jungmun, driving the south coast, or riding the airport limousine to the resort hotels anyway. The visit is short and cheap, and on a rough day the waves can throw spray more than 20 m up the columns. Skip it if you have already seen columnar cliffs elsewhere and are short on time. There is no beach and no hike: you look down on the columns from the cliff top.

From Seogwipo City’s e-ticket page and Visit Jeju, checked 22 October 2026. The closing time moves with sunset, and the viewing area closes when the sea or wind is too strong. Visitors 65 and over should carry a passport to show their age.

What you see at the cliff

  • The columns from above. From the cliff top you look down on layers of dark hexagonal pillars that step down into the sea like a staircase or a folding screen.
  • The surf. The sea breaks straight onto the columns. Visit Jeju notes that in big swells the spray rises more than 20 m, so a windy day is often the more dramatic one.
  • The scale. At 30–40 m high and about 1 km long, this is the largest columnar-joint formation in Korea, according to both Seogwipo City and Visit Jeju.

Facilities by the entrance include a convenience store, drinks stand, disabled toilets and disabled parking. Visit Jeju rates access for wheelchair users as difficult, so check before you go if you need step-free routes.

Getting to Jusangjeolli Cliff

From Bus Get off at
Jeju Airport Airport limousine 600 (also the 601 variant), from the 600 stop at the airport 제주국제컨벤션센터 중문대포해안주상절리대 (Convention Center, Jusangjeolli), 17 stops (601: 19)
Jeju Bus Terminal 240, over the 1100 road past Yeongsil 제주국제컨벤션센터[북], 39 stops
Seogwipo 510 from Jungang Rotary or 520 from the Seogwipo transfer stop; both call at Jungmun transfer stop and Cheonjeyeon Falls 제주국제컨벤션센터 중문대포해안주상절리대, the last stop
Back to the airport Limousine 600 From 제주국제컨벤션센터[북] across the road; 17 stops to the airport (drop-off only)

Stop orders from the Jeju Bus Information System, checked 22 October 2026. The limousine leaves from its own 600 stop at the airport, not the express-bus stops used for routes such as 151. Seogwipo City puts the walk from the convention centre stop at about 15 minutes. A T-money card works on island buses.

By car, the site is in the Jungmun resort area on the south coast; park in the free car park by the ticket office.

Tips

  • Come before 17:30. Last entry is 17:30, so if you are touring the south coast, put the cliff early in the afternoon rather than last.
  • Pay by card or QR. The ticket office takes cards and cash, and since April 2025 Jeju’s public sights also accept ZeroPay QR payment. Seogwipo City is cutting back on cash at its sights.
  • Check the sea. High waves can close the viewing area. On a calm day you see the columns clearly; on a windy one you see the spray.

Around Jusangjeolli

The cliff is part of the Jungmun resort strip, a short ride from the hotels and from Cheonjeyeon Falls on bus 510 or 520. Combine it with Seogwipo’s waterfalls, Jeongbang and Cheonjiyeon, for a south-coast day, or with the O’sulloc Tea Museum on the way to the west. For flights, buses and where to stay in Jungmun, see the Jeju guide and the Jeju region page. For a full island route, see the 10-day Korea itinerary.
