Songdo Beach is a free city beach in west Busan, best for a 2–3 hour visit built around the sea cable car: ₩19,000 return (₩24,000 with a glass floor), open 09:00–21:00 in autumn. Get there by bus 7, 26, 71 or 96 from Jagalchi Station Exit 1, so it pairs easily with Nampo.

Songdo (송도) opened in July 1913 as Korea’s first public beach. Today the reason to come is less the sand than the setting: a curved bay with a skywalk over the water, a cable car that crosses the sea to the cliffs of Amnam Park, and a short suspension bridge to a rocky islet. It sits in Busan’s western district, a short bus ride from Jagalchi Fish Market and BIFF Square.

What to do at Songdo, and in what order

Four sights line the bay. They are close together, so plan around the opening hours rather than the distances.

Stop Hours Closed Cost Best for
Songdo Skywalk (구름산책로) 06:00–23:00 Open every day Free A walk over the sea, early or after dark
Busan Air Cruise cable car 09:00–21:00 (Mar–Jun, Sep–Nov) Bad-weather stops only From ₩19,000 return The view over the bay and coast
Yonggung Cloud Bridge (용궁구름다리) 09:00–17:30 Oct–Feb, 09:00–18:00 Mar–Sep 1st and 3rd Monday Fee not published by Seo-gu Cliffs and waves underfoot
Songdo Coastal Trail (해안산책로) 09:00–18:00 Oct–Dec, last entry 17:00 In storms or ice Free A 20-minute cliff walk

Hours and prices from the cable car operator and the Seo-gu district office, checked 20 October 2026. The cable car ends at Songdo Sky Park in Amnam Park, a short walk from the Cloud Bridge. The bridge and the trail close at dusk, so a sensible plan is: cable car up in the afternoon, Cloud Bridge, ride back, then the skywalk at sunset.

For the bridge, Visit Busan’s English page lists 09:00–17:00 in winter; the Seo-gu district office, which runs it, gives 09:00–17:30 with last entry at 17:00. The district office also says the Coastal Trail’s hours will change once disaster-prevention works start in November 2026.

The cable car: tickets and prices

The Busan Air Cruise opened in June 2017. It runs 1.62 km over the sea from Songnim Park at the beach’s eastern end to Amnam Park, up to 86 m above the water. A return trip takes about 15–20 minutes; the operator suggests 60–90 minutes in total with the viewing decks and attractions at both stations.

Ticket (per person) Adult (13+) Child (36 months–12)
Air Cruise (standard cabin), return ₩19,000 ₩14,000
Air Cruise, one way ₩15,000 ₩12,000
Crystal Cruise (glass floor), return ₩24,000 ₩18,000
Crystal Cruise, one way ₩19,000 ₩15,000
Unlimited day pass, any cabin (weekdays only) ₩35,000 ₩30,000
Speedy Cruise (no queue), Air / Crystal ₩45,000 / ₩55,000 same

Prices from the operator’s Korean and English price pages, checked 20 October 2026. For most visitors the Air Cruise return is enough; the Crystal cabin adds the view straight down through the floor. Skip the queue-jump ticket unless it is a summer weekend.

Rules worth knowing before you buy

  • One-way tickets board only at the station where they were issued. With a return, keep your ticket: you must get off and re-board at the far end.
  • Online tickets are valid from the next day. For a same-day ride, buy at the ticket window, which the operator says is always possible.
  • Cabins hold 8 people and are shared with other riders. No food or drink inside.
  • Strollers ride folded; manual wheelchairs can ride occupied. Electric wheelchairs cannot, but the stations lend manual ones. Pets ride free in a carrier or pet stroller.
  • The cable car can stop in strong wind or storms; the homepage shows that day’s hours and whether it is running.

Getting to Songdo Beach

There is no subway station at the beach. Take Busan Metro Line 1 to Jagalchi Station, leave by Exit 1, and take city bus 7, 26, 71 or 96 to the Songdo Beach stop (송도해수욕장). From Busan Station, where the KTX from Seoul arrives, the operator lists buses 17 and 61. A T-money card works on all of them.

For the Cloud Bridge without the cable car, bus 7 from the Jagalchi Station / Chungmu-dong Junction stop goes to the Amnam Park stop (암남공원). From Gimhae Airport, the operator suggests the light rail to Sasang, then bus 161 to the Songdo entrance stop, about 15 minutes on foot. The Busan City Tour bus also stops at Songdo Beach; see tours in Korea.

If you come by car, the Namhang car park by the lower station charges ₩300 per 10 minutes on weekdays and ₩500 at weekends, with 1 hour free on weekdays and 2 hours at weekends for cable car riders. Amnam Park’s public car park, by the upper station and the bridge, costs ₩100 per 10 minutes, up to ₩2,400 a day, with no rider discount.

Tips for visiting

  • Go mid-afternoon. Ride the cable car while the bridge and trail are open, then stay for sunset on the skywalk, which is open until 23:00.
  • Check the Monday. The Cloud Bridge closes on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month; if it is shut, the cable car and skywalk are still worth the trip.
  • Leave the selfie stick. Visit Busan says high heels, hiking poles and selfie sticks are not allowed on the Cloud Bridge, whose deck is open wire mesh.
  • Swimming is a summer thing. Lifeguards, the beach facilities and the turtle-shaped diving platform (10:00–17:00) run only during the summer swimming season.
  • Weekdays are better value. The unlimited day pass is sold only on weekdays, and parking for riders is charged at the lower weekday rate.

A short history

Songdo was developed in July 1913, in the Japanese colonial period, as a resort for the Japanese living in Busan, and became Korea’s first public beach. Through the following decades it ranked with the hot springs of Dongnae and Haeundae among the city’s main attractions. The original cable car stopped running in the late 1980s; the operator calls the 2017 line a restoration after 29 years. The old suspension bridge from Songnim Park to Turtle Island (Geobukseom) was damaged by Typhoon Thelma in 2002 and taken down.

Typhoon damage, sand loss and poor water quality pushed the beach into decline in the 1980s. A coastal restoration in the early 2000s brought back a wide sandy beach. For the beach’s centenary in 2013, the diving platform was rebuilt; the skywalk followed in 2015, the cable car returned in 2017, and the Yonggung Cloud Bridge, from Amnam Park to the islet of Dongseom, opened in its place 18 years after the old bridge was lost.

Around Songdo Beach

Songdo is on Busan’s western coast. The markets of Nampo are a short bus ride east: Jagalchi Fish Market for a seafood dinner, Gukje Market and BIFF Square for street food. Gamcheon Culture Village is on the hills above the west side, and the cliffside Huinnyeoul Culture Village is across the water on Yeongdo. For a bigger resort beach, compare Haeundae Beach or Gwangalli Beach; for regional dishes, see the Korean food guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Songdo cable car?

A return ticket for an adult costs ₩19,000 in a standard Air Cruise cabin or ₩24,000 in a glass-floored Crystal Cruise cabin. One-way tickets are ₩15,000 and ₩19,000. Children from 36 months to 12 years pay ₩14,000 or ₩18,000 return. Prices are from the operator, checked October 2026.

What are the Songdo cable car opening hours?

09:00–21:00 from March to June and September to November, 09:00–22:00 in July and August, and 09:00–20:00 in December, January and February. Ticket sales close 30 minutes before closing, and the cable car can stop early or suspend service in bad weather.

Crystal Cruise or Air Cruise: which should I take?

Both use the same line and take the same time. The Crystal cabin has a transparent floor so you look straight down at the water, for ₩5,000 more on a return ticket. Take the Air cabin if heights bother you or you mainly want the view of the bay.

How do I get to Songdo Beach from Nampo?

Take Busan Metro Line 1 to Jagalchi Station, leave by Exit 1 and catch city bus 7, 26, 71 or 96 to the Songdo Beach stop. Jagalchi, BIFF Square and Gukje Market are all around that station, so Songdo fits into the same day.

Is Songdo Beach worth visiting?

Yes for a half-day if you are in central or west Busan: the skywalk is free, the cable car is the best view of the bay and the coast, and it pairs easily with Nampo. If you want a big resort beach with nightlife, Haeundae or Gwangalli suit better.
